In-Home Energy Engineering
This video below shows how truly
important Energy Engineering is in
any home.  Our Energy
Diagnostics with Blower Doors,
Infrared imaging, Duct Leakage
Tests, pressure balancing, Heat
Load Calculations and proper
sizing of equipment all show how
effective our service is.

If you've chosen a home builder, you can call us before you start
construction to negotiate an Energy Plan. H.P.S. can show you the
basics and decifer the complexities of Energy Efficiency to make your
home Energy Star Plus. We have a checklist for Subcontractors-HVAC,
Insulation, Plumbers, Framers and the Builder- showing specifications
that can easily be attained. The Preliminary Analysis will show you, with
the Building Improvements, how much you will be spending on
Electricity/Gas throughout the year.

New homes that do not have the Energy Star Certificate typically
have major leakage and construction gaps, HVAC sizing problems
and duct leakage, lack of proper insulation, balancing  problems....All
which can be fixed before the Builder's Warranty is expired.

The Final Analysis, once the home is completed, consists of a
Blower Door test for House Leakage,  and the following inspections:

HVAC Performance                                   Model # Verification of Equip.
Air Handling Ducts                                          Air Flow Balancing of HVAC
Attic Ventilation                                              Energy Diagnostic Punchlist
Programmable Thermostat Instruction               for your builder
Ventilation Strategy for interior if "too tight"
Home Performance Analysis-Existing Homes
The "Real Value" of getting an Energy Rating Analysis. We find at H.P.S.
that  most Energy Reduction can be made in existing homes. Most existing
construction has many avenues for energy upgrades that can be
accomplished cost-effectively. We will give you contractor upgrade
solutions as well as do-it-yourself upgrades that can be done when you
are ready to do them.
Call us if your Utility bill is higher than
$50 per 1,000 square ft.
Our visit includes analysis of the last 12 months of utility bills, and the
following:

Duct Leakage Testing                                          Insulation/Barrier inspection
Blower Door Leakage Test(whole house)       HVAC Design (sizing, inspec)
Infrared Camera Inspection
Model #Verification of all equip.
Air Sealing Photo Package
Ventilation strategy for interior if "too tight"        included
The
HOME PERFORMANCE SOLUTION REPORT consists of:

-Photographs of Problems with descriptive Narratives and Solutions
also infrared pictures included
-Cost Effective Upgrades in order of Importance and Energy Savings
listed with payback in years for each upgrade.
-Behavioral changes you can make to save even more energy.

Whole house unity in efficiency and performance is based
on three concepts.
Reduced Heat Loss (Insulation/Infiltration)
Properly Designed Equipment (High Efficiency and Performance)
Adequate Ventilation (Reduced Moisture, condensation, mold, HEPA
Technology, Energy Recovery Ventilation)

The "Home Performance Analysis" will give you a finite approach to an Exact
Design Process that will fit your home like a glove. We Provide:
Home Performance Audit
Detailed 2 page review of insulation levels, window upgrades, construction
gap deficiencies, lights and appliance audit, consulting on comfort issues
in the home. Visit is typically 1/2 hour with checklist given on-site.
